I almost called this one the Spider-Gwen edition, ’cause hello Gwen as a spidey hero. I’ll admit I didn’t like Gwen so much in the most recent Spider-Man movie, but she had such a huge impact on Peter Parker/Spider-Man in past comics as being his first love, and ultimately was another loved one that he couldn’t save from the bad guys. What could that do to a person’s psyche, let alone someone who has chosen to become a superhero? I’m certain its given various iterations of Spider-man a complex for seemingly being able to save everyone, but those that he loves most. Ack, it’s heart-wrenching, yo. But this is the Joker edition, woot! Like how cool does Joker look in the Batman ’66 #20 cover, and so absolutely creep in Batman #39? The 60’s campy TV show Joker has always been one of my faves. Its the campiness, the over the top facial expresses, and that truly amazing huge smile and corresponding laugh that has him in my top 3 at the very least. And in this ’66 issue he becomes crime-fighting “Joker Man”! Whut?! The fight for top spot will always be between Heath Ledger (hitting that remote button gets me every time,) and Mark Hamill. Seriously, 20 years of being the voice of Joker and its still hard for me to see Luke Skywalker as the clown that wants to take the dark knight down.
Check out this week’s latest and greatest from Marvel and DC! Those highlighted in bold are the issues I’ll be picking up this week.
