Bear with me, I want to share my love of comics with you in some informative way… just working out the kinks I guess. For the uninitiated, Wednesdays are comic release days, so I’m thinking I’m going to share which comics I’m looking forward to picking up today at Red Nails II, Toronto as well as the full list of what you can find for Marvel and DC Comics. There are of course, a TON of other comic publishers out there, but these two are the ones I’m dipping into my coffee fund for entertainment right now.
Marvel Comics
There are two comics from Marvel that I can’t wait to get my hands on this week. Firstly there’s Deadpool #41; he’s my kind of crazy-funny and the violence seems to be a joy to read, who knew? Secondly, I am SO looking forward to Secret Avengers #12. I seem to require a lot of humor in my comics these days and I simply can’t wax enough poetically on how virtually awesome this comic is. M.O.D.O.K. (Mechanized Organism Designed Only for Killing) falling in love for Maria Hill?! Deadpool and AIM wooing Hawkeye. This series rightfully mocking the Fractions’ Hawkeye series (like the fact Hawkguy not being about to simply belt his pants properly to keep ’em up, whut). Blackwidow and Spiderwoman being bad-ass from the very beginning. This series has made me happy and LOL, literally out loud.
Maybe you’ll get lost in the plot, or maybe you’ll see what I mean…
Deadpool #41 & Secret Avengers #12 Sneak Peeks

If you have become, or want to become a fan of SHIELD related stores, I highly recommend picking up [easyazon_link identifier=”078519052X” locale=”CA” nw=”y” nf=”y” tag=”geewitsty-20″ cart=”y” cloak=”y” localize=”y” popups=”n”]Secret Avengers Volume 1: Let’s Have a Problem[/easyazon_link].

And speaking of Fractions’ Hawkeye, it’s once again been moved into next month. *pout* As much as I love mocking this comic (Spoiler Alert: it seems like the first page of the hopefully soon to be release #21 showcases Hawkeye not understanding the term “money laundering” by having him literally launder the money he just stole from the baddies.) Despite it’s many WTF faults, I still find that I love reading it too, so keeping *fingers crossed* that we’ll finally get this comic come February. If we wait much longer, Hawkeye Series #2 will be released later this year, before #1 has finished publishing.

DC Comics
To be honest, I am only just getting back into DC Comics. I had picked up a one-shot of the Suicide Squad last week due to my love of Harley Quinn (she’s all kinds of insane!), and it was well worth the purchase. I enjoyed reading Batman and Nightwing based stories in the way-long-ago past and came across some comics titled “Grayson” last week, though I didn’t pick it up. #MyBad So a previously dead super hero somehow gets reborn into a Secret Agent? Whut, yes please! That sounds awesome, so I’m hoping I can dig up #1. “Harley Quinn”, on the other hand, hasn’t been getting great blog reviews that I’ve seen unfortunately (except for great artistry,) and at #14 already, I’ll keep this as an alternative-buy if I don’t find other books I want today.
And then there’s Effigy #1. Remember Reserve Deputy Chief Steven Seagal? The Under Siege actor? Yeah, him. I can’t stop thinking about his epic career, while I read the intro to this awesome series titled, “Effigy”; except this story should be much more exciting than Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. It follows a child-actress, Chondra Jackson. Now a cop, she finds herself investigating a murder that sounds much like a plot from her child detective show. This apparently globe-trotting, cult-fighting, mystery story has promise!

My son would love this comic!
Cool! Which one is he reading? 🙂
My kids would not be reading those because they look a bit violent for me. But I am starting to get the appeal of comics. One of my girls is in love with Archie comics right now. I am sure that will evolve. This is a cool new feature for your blog. Also thanks for the Instagram post. Super helpful!
Yep, there are so many comics out there that aren’t for children, like what we have for movies there’s a rating system to tell whether the comic is actually suitable for a child, teen and/or an adult. 🙂 I was entirely addicted to Archie growing up, and wish I didn’t throw all those comics away when I went to univ! #Oops
Am glad the Instagram post helped ya Paula! <3 Its so truly scary how easy it is to use those maps to creep. :/
This is helpful! I’m going to pass it on to my brother in law because he love his comic books!
I’ll be honest..I’m not really into comics. I loved reading Archie though but my son would be all over this! Just like his uncle 🙂
I’ve never really gotten into comics but my husband LOVES the Marvel movies (and says they are far superior to the DC ones). I know those wouldn’t be possible or popular without the amazing talents of the comic book artists themselves.
Ryan (the aforementioned husband) also reads some online webcomics and loves XKCD. Do you ever read that one?
I agree with your husband Vanessa, Marvel kicked butt over DC movies, lol. I’m counting down the days/weeks/months for Avenger’s Age of Ultron, can’t wait! 🙂
I hadn’t seen XKCD before, but its entertaining! Thanks for the heads up; TheHubs and I will be checking that one out regularly for sure now.
Got to love Deadpool, I’m really looking forward to the movie in the makes!
