Kingsman: The Secret Service released on blu-ray yesterday! If you haven’t seen this epic movie, it stars Colin Firth, Samuel L Jackson, Michael Cane and Taron Egerton, as Gary ‘Eggsy’ Unwin, the brilliant thug that quickly has aspirations to become a spy. This movie has all the things, including hilarious moments, jaw-dropping fight scenes, incredible female characters (it even passes the Bechdel Test,) amusing bad guys, and violence. Oh mah gerd, the violence. I don’t like violent movies usually. Frustratingly, my empathy goes haywire even over fictional characters, so watching any character die horribly is not my idea of a good time. To this day, the only horror films I’ve seen are the ones I was made to watch in Sr. Public School (yep, made to watch, in grade 8, unless I wanted a failed assignment. That drama teacher was an ass.) So when I say that this truly-violent movie is amazing, and I want to watch it again and again despite the monumentally graphic content, its as sure-fire a guarantee as you’re gonna get that the movie is a must see.

Colin Firth is a secret spy gentleman, code name: Galahad (there is this whole King Arthur’s Round Table theme to this secret group,) and he, along with his fellow Kingsmen, is tasked to help find a replacement Kingsman Knight that will become their new Lancelot; placing his bid on Eggsy. The film focuses on how this street-smart boy, who already threw away a promising career before, takes to the world of the high-tech gadget toting, debonair, spying game; finding himself an opponent that leads a high-tech revolution, with truly scary plans for the future.

While the blu-ray doesn’t have any deleted scenes, nor a gag reel that I always look forward to, it does come with six features that make the movie worth purchasing (instead of outright buying a digital copy, ’cause I knew right when the movie ended in the theatre, that no matter what, I was going to own this movie somehow!)

The blu-ray also comes with a digital code, meaning that I can still watch the movie anywhere (blu-ray DVD player, tablet, or on my TV through our Google Chromecast HDMI key,) though the special features are only available on the disc itself.

I love the fact that this movie originated from a comic book. The story line is actually different enough from the movie that I want to collect all six issues to find out how the original story was intended to go.

Have you seen the movie? What did you think, and will you be picking up the Blu-ray/DVD soon? There are rumors that a sequel is in the works right now, which I oh so hope are true! 🙂
