After three long years, Social Media Week is back again in Toronto from June 6th to 10th, 2016 as an Independent event! It’s time to get into the nitty-gritty of marketing, media, and technology, and learn how social networks really connect and strengthen our Canadian community, while reaching out to a global audience. This year’s event has a strong cast of social pundits and change-makers to walk us through a map of that ever growing, and remarkably territorial, digital landscape.

Social Media Week in Toronto Panels and Discussions
Have you checked out this year’s schedule for Social Media Week in Toronto? There is a ton of interesting panels and discussions happening over the few days, including these three that caught my eye right away:
- Raccoons And Invisible Things: A Year Of Social Wins and Fails At BuzzFeed Canada with Buzzfeed Canada Editor, Craig Silverman
- The Next Canada with Digital Media Expert, Jesse Brown
- Lessons from T.O. Foodies: The Subculture of Food Instagramming in Toronto
Sounds fab, right? I can’t wait to sit in the crowd and gain a new perspective or two in an industry I’ve watched grow over the past decade. I just might need a bucket of coffee to get me through the week.

Veronica Watson MacDonnell from Twitter. My heart is still with Twitter and I would love to hear an insiders view.
I would like to hear the BuzzFeed presentation.
Most interested in: #WeTheNorm: A Conversation with Councillor Norm Kelly.
Due to his social media presence and Twitter feuds/friendships the 74-year-old city councillor is worshipped by teens around the world.
I’m most interested in Lessons from T.O. Foodies since I’m a foodie myself!
I would love to attend SMWiTO, if only to hear Amber Naslund speak on “The Future of Strategic Social Media”. There is so much to learn, no matter how immersed you are in Social Media. This would be a great session to attend!
YES, I can’t wait to see this one! Always love learning and adopting new strategies.
I would be excited to attend the Photo Walk + Office Visit by 500px because I’ve been experimenting with visual, content creation through my social channels (YouTube and Instagram), and would love to learn more from 500px. Also, I’ve recently moved back to Toronto so being a tourist in my own city again would be a plus!
Welcome back to Toronto! 😀 Yes, the photo walk sounds very promising. I’m trying to decide whether I want to bring my DSLR with me for this, or just stick to my smartphone. #Decisions
I would like to attend the Future of Strategic Social Media. It is always good to keep on top of what is coming.
I’m looking forward to “Lessons from T.O. Foodies: The Subculture of Food Instagramming in Toronto” because I’m looking to try an improve my photos.
Looking forward to #smwiTO
I’m looking forward to authenticity & social influencers because I’m a blogger and community manager, so it’s very relevant.
As a huge fan of social technologies this sounds really exciting. The list of speakers looks amazing. Wish I could attend.
I will not be here but I would enjoy this for sure. Maybe they will tape it or share in some format. For sure I will follow the twitter feed that day. The list of speakers looks amazing!
I have never heard of this conference before! It sounds amazing!!! I can’t wait to follow along and see what I can learn!

Since I love twitter parties, I’d be interested in going to the Twitter presentation.
This would be so much fun …. if only I lived close enough to attend 🙁
Sounds like it will be great! I wish I could have made it. Looking forward to following along on social media
