A BIG fan of accessories that have clean, bold lines, I spent forever looking at all the pretty pendants and charms that I could see myself wearing throughout the year.
There are a number of collections that will bring joy to your every day including Canadiana, Rose Gold, and possibly my favourite, Intention.
As I write this, I’m wearing the COURAGE Gord Downie Tribute silk wrap that I’ve been enjoying for a few days now. The silk is so light, that I sometimes forget I have something wrapped around my wrist.
It’s a pleasant surprise every time I look down.
A Gord Downie Tribute
If Canada hadn’t known already, last week’s Juno Awards in Vancouver, British Columbia hit home how our country dimmed the day Gord Downie passed away back in October 2017 from Glioblastoma.
“If we’ve learned anything from Gord it was the value of taking care of each other.” Patrick Downie (brother)
After researching Citrus Silver for this article (and giveaway, look below), I knew there had to be more behind founder Karen Lamont’s lovingly fitting tribute to Gord Downie. A piece that will help fight against brain cancers by donating $10 to Sunnybrook’s Gord Downie Fund for Brain Cancer for every purchase of COURAGE.
So I asked Karen, “Why?” What was the compulsion to creating such a beautiful tribute to the Canadian singer and songwriter?
I’ve always been a HUGE hip fan. Their songs stir up memories from decades gone by, including my university years when the band was still young. I’ve seen them in concert many times and have always appreciated the stories they tell through their lyrics, especially those that make Canadian references. I think so many Canadians can relate to them.
I lost my father-in-law to Glioblastoma, the same cancer that Gord had, a few months before Gord Downie’s cancer was shared in the press. My heart sunk with the news, because I knew what the odds were and had a sense for what he and his family was up against. It would be a tough battle.
But Gord seemed fearless. Stepping up his activism with Indigenous Rights, going on tour one last time to celebrate the Hips success wouldn’t have been easy. And of course, it took time away from his family. That was a big sacrifice.
Not only was Gord an incredible singer-songwriter, musician, writer and artist. He had a huge impact on Canadian music culture and brought our country together through music and his fight with cancer.
To call him an iconic Canadian is easy. Karen Lamont
And, if you’re the kind of believer of no-such-thing-as-coincidences, the radio in the café that I’m sitting in right now has Gord Downie suddenly crooning out, “it goes through you,” right above my head, right now.
“Hello again my friends
I’ve come to see you again
I’m the East Wind
The laziest Wind”
