If there are two things you should know about me, it’s: 1) I have a bit more than a healthy love for Marvel (comics, TV & MCU, all of it,) and, 2) one of my newly minted loves of Toronto is The Rec Room. A place to play, eat, and play some more, and apparently a great place for private parties. So imagine my level of ecstatic glee, when I learned the two would be combined for one incredible evening.

Showcase Marvel Runaways Review on Geek with Style

Showcase recently invited Jay and I to The Rec Room for a party to preview Marvel’s Runaways, which made for a fantastically geeky eve. It’s all kinds of awesome to watch a preview of the first couple episodes of a new Marvel TV Show with local geeks and then have a chance to play in the arcade.

Marvel Artist Craig Yeung

As an unexpected treat, the evening started off with a quick Q&A with Craig Yeung, one of the artists that created this gorgeous Runaways poster!

Have you seen Marvel’s Runaways yet?

If you have, isn’t it awesome??  If you haven’t, you really should fix that!

Have you ever suspected your parents to be card-carrying villains?

In this coming-of-age story, six teens are discovering that their parents might not be just, ugh, you’re so mean kind of dorks, but really might be evil.

And as viewers, we’re dropped right into the story of when these meddling kids discover that their parents are weirder than they thought, omg.

There are a lot of mysteries to unravel about these kids and their parents’ pasts, and being a few episodes in, I’m hooked.

I want all of my questions answered, yo.  I’ve been reduced to yelling at my TV as another mystery is brought to light, and not yet explained away.

It’s going to take a while to learn the whole story of these villains and their offspring, and what’s with that gigantic lizard/dinosaur in the poster??

I do love this show’s way of storytelling, though. We’re not only given the point-of-view of the kids, but there is a lot of focus on the holy-crap they look so normal, but they’re so evil parents as well.

Would love to hear your thoughts in the comment section below! And please be aware, there might be spoilers in some of the comments below if you’re going to take a look.

Where to Watch Marvel’s Runaways in Canada

Showcase airs Marvel’s Runaways on Wednesday nights at 8 PM EST!  I believe we’re four episodes in, but you won’t be lost if you start watching now.

The kids and us viewers are still trying to figure out if the parents are as epic evil as we’re being led to believe.
