This past Friday, September 1st was better known as Force Friday to Star Wars fans. Did you celebrate with your fellow Sith Lords and Jedis? As part of the fun, Best Buy released a number of epic Star Wars tech for all geeks. Build and program your own R2-D2! Fly your own jumpspeeder, or roll with BB-9E, a droid we’ll get to know a lot more about with the upcoming Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
While padawans are so very eager to see the full Star Wars: The Last Jedi trailer (releasing October 16th), the most recent video released on Star Wars YouTube channel features the Porg creature that you may have seen during last weekend’s Find the Force event.
As a child that was very much into Return of the Jedi’s cute and cuddly Ewoks, I’m wondering if Porgs are going to be just as popular (love to hate or hate to love) in Star War lore.
Random thought: Remember “We’re the E-e-e-e-Ewoks!” theme song for the cartoon?
Here’s a look into recent Star Wars tech that you can find at Best Buy right now!
BB-8 was so last movie season, am I right? (KIDDING!) There is a new droid on the block though, the BB-9E.
POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT: If the black casing didn’t give it away, there’s a good chance that this droid is all Dark Side.
If last year’s BB-8 droid is anything to go by, Sphero has packed a lot of fun into this ball, including moveability just as you’ve seen in The Force Awakens.
Also available this year from Sphero is a new BB-8 and R2-D2! (Retail $199.99)
How cool is it that you can now purchase all the pieces needed to build your own working R2-D2 Droid?? Learn the valuable skills of putting a circuit board together, and watch R2-D2 play with use of the Android/iTunes app. (Retail Price $149.99)
Propel, a leader in personal drones, has created hand-painted, limited edition Star Wars battling drones. Yes, battling.
Jump into the Death Star destroying T-65 X-Wing, pilot Darth Vader’s very own Tie Advanced X1 Starfighter, or my personal favourite, hop onto the 74-Z Speeder Bike. All of which are capable of in-flight battling in a multi-user scenario. (Retail Price $249.99)
These drones are so sophisticated, they’ve included an app that will help you practice your drone-flying skills in a virtual platform, before taking your battling drone for a spin. Practice and pass each tutorial to familiarize yourself with your drones controls.
I kinda wish this app was available for all drones. I have a few at home that my nephews just love to fly into walls… and eaves troughs.
So much fun launched this past Force Friday! What is your fave?
