Every year, 51 million babies are not registered at birth according to Plan Canada. Even for a global count, that number is incredibly high. It might seem like just a piece of paper, but it’s so much more. It’s a yes or no kind of deal. Do you have your birth certificate? If yes, then you can go to school, you can get a job, you can vote and be heard. If you’re not registered, you’re stuck with no health benefits, no education, no rights. It’s a sad reality, but you’re essentially not a person when it matters without that piece of paper. It doesn’t take much to turn that around though.
Right now we can help change the fate of five children; when you purchase one birth certificate, a government, foundation or organizational partner will match your donation four times over. Five souls will be a step ahead, because they can prove who they are and have basic human rights behind them.
A birth certificate is such a simple thing, but it can determine how far a person’s potential can go…
Speaking of donations in general, have you shared the wealth yet this season? Do you set aside a specific amount to give each and every year or just give what you can, when you can?

I have donated to the Children's Wish Foundation in the past but at the moment I am donating every month into a fund for myself and my family to one day own a home. I do hope to again be able to donate to some form of charity or be able to adopt a family in need.
It's the little things we take for granted in our society... and it's amazing to think that funding the purchase of one birth certificate will help 5 kids get them.
It's amazing what a piece of paper can do and mean. We're so fortunate to get ours easily in Canada. I almost take it for granted. What a great campaign. We donate throughout the year to Sick Kids and CAMH and on-going to various charities such as most recently, the Movember campaign. This holiday season we're donating a lot of baby gear to The New Mom Project and toys to Toy drives.
Seriously, I didn't even know that this was a problem .. shocked! Yes, every one should have one! I so agree!
What a wonderful gift idea! The things we take for granted in Canada are many... Our main giving each year is to Plan Canada for our foster child.
Wow! I never thought about this. It's amazing all the little things we take for granted.
