Coffee is just coffee right?

If you’re laughing, snickering, or yelling at your screen, wondering how could I make such a statement, then you, my friend, are a coffee connoisseur, and I heart you for it!

Coffee is magic when you have the right ground bean filtered into your mug.

I don’t mess around (too much) when it comes to what I drink in my Keurig® every morning. I need that moment of silence, just me alone with Joe Cuppa, where I can feel out how the day will be, and get into that frame of mind to take on that busy day.

Don’t get me wrong; I’ll try something new (it’s what this Geek does,) but I usually go back to my favourite Keurig® coffee brands at the end of the day (or more literally, the next morning.) So, even while I’m typing this out, I’m still a little bit shocked of what I found when I tested Kraft Canada’s new Keurig®* Compatible Pods… I feel like I struck gold.

Remember back in the day when you made two to four cups of coffee that dripped into a glass carafe? What was the first thing you did when making that cup?

The very first thing you’d do?

For me, that answer would be to get a pre-caffeinated high simply by opening the coffee tin/bag and getting a good strong whiff of what was yet to come.

Seriously, do you remember that moment? Flipping that lip and deeply breathing in that sweet scent before measuring out that right amount of grounded bean into the filter, for me, was like a kick-start to the system, telling my brain to get ready, that I’m about to boot up for the day.

As much as I love technology and improving how I spend my time every day, I dearly missed that scent, while loading up my Keurig® for my morning cup. The loss was nearly a little jolt of physical pain of a lost, favoured tradition. I missed that little warning – that sense memory that let me know I was on my way to a fantastically busy day but I definitely wouldn’t switch back to a normal brewing unit, ‘cause I love the time I’ve gained back as well as not having to toss away old, unused cups of leftover coffee every day.

Technology Caught Up To The Old Ways

If you haven’t caught on yet, it wasn’t an accident when I typed “missed”. Thanks to Kraft Canada, I’ve got a little bit of the “old way” back, and I could seriously hug someone hard for it.

Let me introduce you to the NEW Keurig®* Compatible Pods by Kraft Canada, found in three awesome brands, and a ton of varieties, with little doubt that you’ll find at least one to love!

Kraft Nabob Maxwell Gevalia all available for Keurig

Probably the most recognizable of the brands available in these newly developed pods is Maxwell House (7 million cups made every day, whoa!) Nabob, backed by 115 years of coffee experience, and the more recent addition, Swedish inspired Gevalia; all of which are now available at your local grocer.

Curious as to how they’re different from the rest of the compatible pods out there?

The picture above shows the outside layer for each single serve packaging, and when you open one of these babies up, you get a fabulously filter casing pod within that smells heavenly. When you open the small bit of packaging, you instantly get this whiff of fresh ground coffee, just like it used to be.

Okay, so no one has developed a smell-o-vision yet, but can you see the difference? A normal pod (shown above, on the very right,) one that we’ve all seen at some point, with its sturdy, sterile plastic doesn’t quite inspire the kickstart I’ve been yearning for ever since I switched to a single-serve system. You don’t know what you’re getting unless you look at the label on top, and they’ve never really inspired excitement for a cup. On the left though, is the filtered looking beauty of the Gevalia Keurig®* Compatible pod (Signature Blend,) which I’ve fallen in love with since I got a chance to test out all three. I’ve always favoured a more rich, less bitter flavour to my cup of joe, and have even found myself using much less sugar and no cream with a cup of Gevalia (compared to my usual double-double). This deliciously full bodied coffee is available in Dark House Blend and Dark Italian Roast.

Our sense of smell can produce our strongest memories, and these new pods haven’t failed yet to bring back those happy-sunny-day-fun-promising moments by waking up to the welcoming scent of coffee… even before I started drinking it myself.

So now each morning (where it’s just me, alone with Joe Cuppa), can spend a few quiet moments of feeling out the day, but now with that feeling that a little bit of the “old way” tradition is back, just as it should be.
