Your smartphone is your life, right? If you yelled out “Ya know it!” enthusiastically, your smartphone needs to be souped up with incredible accessories to get the best out of life, and eliminate that pesky FOMO. You probably know all there is on smart watches, portable chargers, and Bluetooth headphones, but there is so much more you can do with your handheld device. I’ve recently been diving into smartphone accessories, there is kajillion of them, and have made a list of my ultimate faves.

Here are the best smartphone accessories on offer today!

The Better Selfie Lighting Clip

[easyazon_image align=”center” cart=”y” cloak=”n” height=”500″ identifier=”B01GFTCLCY” locale=”CA” localize=”y” nw=”y” nf=”y” src=”//geeklife.ca/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/51AKoiCHSHL.jpg” tag=”geewitsty-20″ width=”500″]
I hate automatic, built-in flash. There, I said it. No taking that back. If you have flash turned on your phone, disable that junk immediately.

To be honest, I actually haven’t had a problem saying that out loud, but have come across crickets after such exclamations more than once. The problem with built-in flash, is that it white-washes your pictures. Alternatively, you’re stuck with ambient lighting, which isn’t always optimal, unless you live some place like always sunny California (or so I’ve heard. I’ve never been! #BucketList)

There are some neat little accessories to combat this, including the [easyazon_link identifier=”B01GFTCLCY” locale=”CA” nw=”y” nf=”y” tag=”geewitsty-20″ cart=”y” cloak=”n” localize=”y” popups=”n”]LONGKO 36 LED Selfie Ring Light Bulb Clip[/easyazon_link]!

While similar accessories to this one taps into your phone’s battery, the Selfie Ring simply clips onto your phone and works with a 2 x AAA batteries, which means you’re not fretting over your phone’s battery drain (we need to save all we can for Pokémon Go!) The softer light means less white washing, so you can get exactly the photo you want without fuss.

You can even limit squinting for proper brightness; still getting a great pick, even with the sun behind you, instead of directly in your eyes.

This accessory is also handy for taking close up photos of various objects. If you find yourself frequently Instagramming your dinner in a candle-lit restaurant, you can quickly get that picture of your gorgeous slab of lasagne before it gets cold. Everyone waiting for you to finish taking pictures of your food will be grateful that they can dig in faster!

The SuperBook

The Android SuperBook
This is sorta what the Chromebook should have been. If you ever thought your smartphone was also your computer, this SuperBook is for you!

Do you get aggravated over updating your files to the cloud, or may even get confused by which device has the latest version? Want to take your home office on the road, but hate the idea of using a WiFi hotspot?

With the SuperBook, you can turn your smartphone into a laptop computer, simply by plugging your phone into the shell laptop device.

Never look at purchasing another laptop again, as your smartphone truly becomes the only computer you need (except for maybe creating vector graphics/photography.) And unlike the Chromebook, you don’t need WiFi access simply to jot down a few notes.

Try out the Android OS app now (free Beta in the Google Play store,) if you have a TV and either a comparable phone dock or Google Chromecast handy, along with a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard. You can discover whether this OS is right for you, and get started with your new computer right away!

VR HMD Headset

Head Mounted Display (HMD, i.e. hands-free) VR headsets, are simultaneously becoming more affordable and expensive. There are quite a few VR related apps available both in iOS and Android platforms, and YouTube is truly embracing VR/360 video.

Easily visit a Mayan pyramid in glorious 3D while on your lunch break.

I personally can’t wait to be able to live Second Life again.

Mini Projector

[easyazon_link identifier=”B01IHRH5SM” locale=”CA” nw=”y” nf=”y” tag=”geewitsty-20″ cart=”n” cloak=”n” localize=”y” popups=”n”]niceEshop(TM) Android Smart WiFi Projector (with Google Play!)[/easyazon_link]

Who needs a TV when you can watch all your shows and movies online via subscriptions (Netflix, shomi, Amazon Prime, etc) through your smartphone, and can project them to a wall instead? Especially with a project that can simulate an 80″ TV! With the right set up, you can even watch your favourite TV shows and movies while enjoying an evening outdoors.

There are a ton of mini projectors to choose from online, but I think I’ve got the basics figured out on what to look out for in an affordable projector: it seems like you’ll do well with min. 1200 lumens, 50+ inches average for screen width, and perhaps at least 6ft in distance.

MOGA Pro Power Gamepad

[easyazon_image align=”center” cart=”y” cloak=”n” height=”500″ identifier=”B00FB5RBJM” locale=”CA” localize=”y” nw=”y” nf=”y” src=”//geeklife.ca/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/41fFpK2BLwOL.jpg” tag=”geewitsty-20″ width=”471″]

[easyazon_link identifier=”B00FB5RBJM” locale=”CA” nw=”y” nf=”y” tag=”geewitsty-20″ cart=”n” cloak=”n” localize=”y” popups=”n”]MOGA PRO POWER[/easyazon_link]

I’m not sure if this kind of joystick would work well with [easyazon_link identifier=”B0111O7WP4″ locale=”CA” nw=”y” nf=”y” tag=”geewitsty-20″ cart=”n” cloak=”n” localize=”y” popups=”n”]Parrot minidrones[/easyazon_link], but my life would be golden if it does! Also, how awesome would it be to turn your phone into it’s own game console?

Playing RISK just got serious.

Charging Stations

[easyazon_image align=”center” cart=”n” cloak=”n” height=”454″ identifier=”B0112W9RRQ” locale=”CA” localize=”y” nw=”y” nf=”y” src=”//geeklife.ca/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/51WWgvxbWgL.jpg” tag=”geewitsty-20″ width=”500″]
A while back I mentioned creating your own charging station with LEGO. Well, if DIY isn’t your bag, there are some gorgeous charging stations that will keep everything in its place.

Utilizing a station like the [easyazon_link identifier=”B0112W9RRQ” locale=”CA” nw=”y” nf=”y” tag=”geewitsty-20″ cart=”n” cloak=”n” localize=”y” popups=”n”]Bamboo SMART Multi-Device Charging Station[/easyazon_link] will keep all of your tech in one handy place. Never forget where you left your charging cord again!

Also, there will be less chance of someone knocking off your tech from the table it sits on. Am I the only one with this issue? It’s almost like Oh Henry loves to pull the cords and watch the smartphones fly.

BONUS: Pokémon Go Plus

[easyazon_image align=”center” cart=”n” cloak=”n” height=”500″ identifier=”B01H10NII2″ locale=”CA” localize=”y” nw=”y” nf=”y” src=”//geeklife.ca/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/51niFWCTd5L.jpg” tag=”geewitsty-20″ width=”342″]
Gone are the days when you accidentally fall off a cliff playing a smartphone game! The Pokémon Go Plus device lets you keep your smartphone in your pocket and still get notified on whether there is a Pokémon or PokéStop nearby. Though there’s been a bit of a delay in production, this will definitely be something to collect for every gamer. In fact, you can check your Christmas list off right now, buy one of these babies for everyone you know.

So, those are my current tech faves for making a smartphone all that much more smarter. Do you have a favourite accessory to share?
