Get your adventure on by kayaking along the fjords of the Saguenay River, become BFFs with a wolf or two, watch whales, or simply enjoy hiking the rugged terrain. It was freezing.[/caption] And, if you happen to live in an area where the weather forecast frequently includes the humidex, you'll want to escape to Quebec's maritime on the worst humid days of the year. You will keep your sanity that way. Unique Places to Stay in Maritime Quebec Parc Aventures Cap Jaseux 250 Chemin de la Pointe aux Pins, Saint-Fulgence, QC G0V 1S0 Parc Aventures Cap Jaseux has quite a few unique and exciting places to experience alternative camping. All units are equipped with most necessities within, though you'll be dancing in the dark to get to one of the ecological toilets nearby. Just don't forget to bring a flashlight with you. Suspended Spheres Suspended, as in, there is nothing but air beneath the sleeping pod. These pods are tied to numerous trees, that lends to a bit of swaying if you get the right wind, or momentum going. Spend a night or two in a suspended sphere that would fit two people comfortably, but if hard pressed, you could fit four. There are two suspended spheres to choose from. One that looks camouflaged, and the other looking like a bright, faceted gem (or perhaps an alien escape pod, take your pick.) You'll have a tiny kitchen at hand if you want to eat your meals within. Tree House I've always wanted to live in a tree house, and that dream can be actualized for a few nights in Cap Jaseux! [caption id="attachment_12156" align="aligncenter" width="600"] Look up! Look way up when looking for this tree house in Parc Aventures.[/caption] [caption id="attachment_12155" align="aligncenter" width="1201"] The interior of the tree house is quite cozy, including a tiny kitchen, sitting area and loft for extra bunking.[/caption] The Secluded Dome If you have very strong opinions on keeping up with the "firm" in "terra firma", this dome is likely more your speed. 20 ft in diameter, sleeps up to four and is comfortably furnished with a small kitchen and seating area. Extra bedding is available for a small fee. The dome is in a secluded area of Parc Aventures Cap Jaseux, so enjoy the peace and quiet while taking in the majestic fjords. No matter where you stay in Parc Aventures Cap Jaseux though, the view of Lac-Saint-Jean is breathtaking. Cap au Leste 551 Chemin du Cap à l'Est, Sainte-Rose-du-Nord, QC G0V 1T0 For roughly 6 days I had a beautiful view of the fjords from various angles while visiting the Quebec maritime regions of Tadoussac, Cote-Nord, Saguenay and Lac-Saint-Jean. I think this is perhaps my favourite view all around. I could have stood in this very spot for hours just appreciating the scene. I may have itched for my sketching kit, even though it would have come out all sorts of abstract over realism. Out of all of the various rental units available at Cap au Leste, including the shared suites, a teepee, and a barn, their private chalets are the true winner for comfort and view. Private Chalet What makes this location unique is that the Cap au Leste cabins are situated near the edge of the fjord. The sunrise and sunset just beyond the fjords are spectacular, and the beds in each chalet are situated specifically for you to enjoy both moments in comfort and luxury. Enjoy a modern and private bathroom inside a chalet. Take advantage of the hot sauna with a gorgeous view. Campfires will never be the same once you experience one during a sunset on the peak of a fjord, with a starry night sky right above. Need to stick indoors for a bit? Perfect time to enjoy the pool with the perfect view. Also awesome - finding free electric vehicle charging stations on the peak of a fjord. Canopée Lit 303 Chemin de l'Anse-de-Roche, Sacré-Coeur, QC G0T 1Y0 The tree house cabins are awesome... And, even has indoor plumbing, along with a tiny kitchen and bedroom loft... But dude, the Bubble pods is where you want to stay. Unfortunately, I don't have a picture of what a bubble dome looks like on the inside but check out Canopée Lit's website for a great view. Each unit is right on the edge of a cliff for a great aerial view of the sky and surrounding forest. Ferme 5 Etoiles 465 route 172 N, Sacre-Coeur-Saguenay, QC G0T 1Y0 If you read my recent post on how a wolf, Luna, was happily chewing on my boot while my foot was still very much inside of it, you will be familiar with this unique location. What makes Ferme 5 Etoiles (Five Star Farm) an unusual place to stay? It's a working/research farm with plenty of moose, bison, wolves, malamute dogs (full dog sled team,) deer and many more to greet and awe over. Your neighbours are the furry residents that live on that farm, and the Saguenay fjord is your gorgeous backdrop for photos. https://www.instagram.com/p/Biflwxygm8L Wake up to a wolf howling (either Jacob or Luna), and want to get closer to greet them with a, "Bonjour!" Log Cabin The log cabins are in beautiful shape, and are quite comfortable for those moments you just want to chill indoors. The only thing I found missing was shampoo & conditioner. So just be sure to bring your favourite travel toiletries along with you. Rooms are also set up with free WiFi to keep you connected with your Pokemon Go collection. The rooms are sparse, but the beds are exactly right for a good night's sleep. And if you want a bit more adventure, for $34/night, you can sleep in a tent beside l'Orignal Zoe! (the moose) Val-Jalbert Historical Village 95 Rue Saint-George, Chambord, QC G0W 1G0 A 1920s historical company town, that you can immerse yourself in. Travel back in time to see what it was like to live near a pulp mill. Period Home For a unique vacation, stay in a modernized Period Home. The rustic interiors will give a sense of history, but the comforts that we enjoy today remain. I fell in love with the bathroom the moment we walked in. Just across from the Period Homes, is the General Store; filled with local foods, clothing, and souvenirs. One of the major attractions of this location is the historic pulp mill and the Chute Ouiatchouan (falls) connected to it. If timed right, catch an evening at the falls for live music and light show.
