It’s that time of year again where we take extra care in letting our moms know how much they mean to us. Are you stuck on finding the perfect gift? Perhaps this is the year to try something different from candies, flowers, wine and her favourite restaurant. If your mom is a geek for adventure, technology, and/or food, then here are some fantastic ideas for you to choose from!

Geek Gifts for the Adventurous Mom

‹ 1 ›

Want to send mom out on an adventure? LifeExperiences has great gift giving ideas that are so much more than just flowers and a card.

LifeExperiences.ca for fun, adventure and travel.

Has your mom ever experienced a helicopter ride? Paddled a kayak? Or, ever tried to hang glide? There are some fantastic packages to help mom get a bit more out of life this summer.

Alternative gifts that will keep your mama happy!

If adventure is limited to only what kind of books your mom reads, here are some awesome choices that would absolutely make her day, like:

  • grabbing a $50 gift certificate for maid service?
  • hiring a stylist to help decorate your mom’s favourite room? If she’s talking about renovations this summer, hiring an expert to create the right design would be the perfect gift!
  • Give mom a spa day! Mom will never say, “Nope!” to a little pampering, right? If you do want to add a bit of adventure to mom’s day at the spa though, check out the Scandinave Spa Blue Mountain! It’s a moment they won’t forget.
  • All the wine and cheese! There are numerous packages to find the right wine & cheese tasting tour available on LifeExperiences. Don’t just give mom a bottle of wine. Let her explore a vineyard. Or a brewery if that’s more her style.

Buy these gifts online right away, or check out RBC Rewards, Shoppers Drug Mart, Walmart, Longo’s or Sears for in-store gift card options. While you’ve purchased a gift certificate for Mother’s Day, mom will have the choice to use it when she’s ready to.

Remember all of those binders of pictures your mom has of your birth alone?

Remember being super careful with camera rolls, so that you didn’t accidentally expose it to light?

Remember getting all excited about taking the last two shots of your roll so you could get it to your grocery store for processing?

Remember being vigilant of what you took pictures of, because each expensive roll of film would only get you 24 pictures?

If you don’t remember any of these things, your mom surely does!

Physical pictures, moments that you can literally hold on to has become a lost art.

Thanks to the [easyazon_link identifier=”B01LBWEMP4″ locale=”CA” nw=”y” nf=”y” tag=”geewitsty-20″ cart=”n” cloak=”n” localize=”y” popups=”n”]HP Sprocket[/easyazon_link] though, you can make picture printing awesome again!

With relative ease, you and your mom can print your favourite photos from your phones, and stick them wherever you please.

Roughly the size of two smartphones fused together, its tiny size means you can take the Sprocket with you always!

And as a bonus for the DIY Mom, if your mom loves to scrapbook, or needs new art to decorate her fridge, laptop, tablet, or truly any flat surface imaginable, simply remove the paper backing off of the photos to turn them into stickers instead.

How cool would it be to tile an entire kitchen table with family photos? Simply brush over the photos with a few layers of [easyazon_link identifier=”B001IKES5O” locale=”CA” nw=”y” nf=”y” tag=”geewitsty-20″ cart=”n” cloak=”n” localize=”y” popups=”n”]Mod Podge[/easyazon_link] to protect them.

To keep the retro flowing, how about an analogue wood watch that was made in Canada?

Konifer Wood Watch - Ceramik

Another lost art is being able to tell time by a clock face. Where three hands are a thing for hours, minutes, and time flying by the little tick tick tick of seconds passing.

I would highly suggest taking a peek at Konifer Watches, and admire their wood-based design for both men and women, as they’re all gorgeous bits of art!

I was gifted the Ceramik watch recently, and absolutely love having this small weight hang along my wrist.

And just between us (shhh!), I’ll admit that it took a day to readjust to an analogous face again, and that’s a skill I’d hate to lose altogether.

I’m now a BIG fan of Konifer Watches, as they’re:

  • a Canadian company,
  • boast a 5-year warranty & free shipping,
  • every watch sold = another tree planted (WOOT!),
  • water resistant with versatile sapphire glass, (that just sounds all pretty and cool!)
  • and every watch is handcrafted.

Have you met [easyazon_link identifier=”B01L3VEC94″ locale=”CA” nw=”y” nf=”y” tag=”geewitsty-20″ cart=”n” cloak=”n” localize=”y” popups=”n”]the Tile[/easyazon_link] yet? This gadget is all kinds of awesome to make sure you know exactly where everything is. If you feel your mom could use help keeping track of where she parked her car, left her purse (or luggage if she loves to travel,) tablet, anything really, grab her a Tile or two.  All she’ll need to do is download the Tile app to her phone, and she’ll be able to track all items that mean the world to her.

Except you. That would be creepy.

Silk’n is a beauty gadget brand that is making waves.  If mom is into beauty tech, she’ll undoubtedly love the Titan.

Silk'n Beauty Technology: Titan

I was absolutely shocked at the real results I had seen during the product launch earlier this year.

While I haven’t had a chance to use this beauty tool for myself yet, I will be very soon, since I’m seemingly more sensitive to gravity these days.

The marketing manager for Silk’n used the Titan on only a portion of her face (her right cheek) for a few months, and the noticeable results blew my mind.

It can…

  • Tighten skin
  • Reduce wrinkles
  • Reduce fine lines
  • Lifts facial contours
  • Reduce superficial sun and age spots
  • Improve the structure and elasticity of the skin
  • Rejuvenate collagen and elastin fibres
  • Strengthen the deep layers of the skin

No recovery time needed, and it’s usable for the entire face and neck.

While it would absolutely suck to say “Happy Mother’s Day, Mom! I noticed you’ve got wrinkles now,” it would be pretty awesome to give mom an eraser for all the aging you probably put her through.

Remember those teen years of yours?

Yeah, so does your mom.

So, just be creative in how you give this gift.

They’re easy to find too, at your local Shoppers Drug Mart.

Geek Gifts for the Foodie Mom

If your mom is as late in the game as I am when it comes to the T-Fal Actifry, get one for her now.

[easyazon_image align=”center” cart=”n” cloak=”n” height=”500″ identifier=”B00CADZMNU” locale=”CA” localize=”y” nw=”y” nf=”y” src=”//geeklife.ca/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/51wlI4g5C3L.jpg” tag=”geewitsty-20″ width=”500″]

I had the pleasure of “frying” up a family favourite of pierogies and onions in roughly 15 minutes, all with 1 tbsp of oil! LOVE how crispy the outer shell of the pierogies wound up being, and how soft, thick and chewy the onions cooked, all while in the same pot!

This was definitely the easiest chop, dump and go dinner I’ve made in a while.

My absolute favourite appliance in my kitchen though, is the [easyazon_link identifier=”B01N5UPTZS” locale=”CA” nw=”y” nf=”y” tag=”geewitsty-20″ cart=”n” cloak=”n” localize=”y” popups=”n”]Breville Smart Oven Pro[/easyazon_link].

[easyazon_image align=”center” cart=”n” cloak=”n” height=”427″ identifier=”B01N5UPTZS” locale=”CA” localize=”y” nw=”y” nf=”y” src=”//geeklife.ca/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/61nY8k4HBjL.jpg” tag=”geewitsty-20″ width=”500″]

Not a day goes by where it’s not turned on at least once. If your mom uses the oven quite often (and what kind of Foodie Mom wouldn’t?), she would absolutely LOVE to have this toaster oven as part of her arsenal as well.

It can cook meats.

It can bake up to 13″ pizzas.

It can slow-cook a meal for up to 10 hours.

It’s a convection toaster oven, which simply put, means that it cooks food all the way through.

My previous toaster was adept at burning food bits on the back of the rack, while keeping the front rack bits as cold as anything I’d find in the fridge.

The Smart Oven Pro perfectly toasts my bread in the morning, bakes my pizza for lunch, and broils my steak for dinner.

Inspired by my recent #GeekTravel Fest Trip to Calgary, if your mom is a Star Wars fan, the [easyazon_link identifier=”B017DQCHRM” locale=”CA” nw=”y” nf=”y” tag=”geewitsty-20″ cart=”n” cloak=”n” localize=”y” popups=”n”]Death Star Waffle Iron[/easyazon_link] is a must.

After [easyazon_link identifier=”B01MXLWO5D” locale=”CA” nw=”y” nf=”y” tag=”geewitsty-20″ cart=”n” cloak=”n” localize=”y” popups=”n”]Rogue One[/easyazon_link], who wouldn’t want to destroy multiple Death Stars for breakfast??

[easyazon_image align=”center” cart=”n” cloak=”n” height=”500″ identifier=”B017DQCHRM” locale=”CA” localize=”y” nw=”y” nf=”y” src=”//geeklife.ca/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/41AV2BRRJvL.jpg” tag=”geewitsty-20″ width=”350″]

Geek Gifts for the Collectible Mom

‹ 9 ›

Is your mom a stamp or coin collector? Canada Post and the Canadian Mint have some wicked geek-themed art right now. From Star Trek coin & stamps, to Batman on a coin, there is a ton of pretty that would look fab in any collection.

[easyazon_image align=”center” cart=”n” cloak=”n” height=”250″ identifier=”B01M3UNMT7″ locale=”CA” localize=”y” nw=”y” nf=”y” src=”//geeklife.ca/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/31JVaRapmtL.jpg” tag=”geewitsty-20″ width=”250″]

This last one may sound a bit funny, but hear me out (read me out?)….  LEGO.

[easyazon_image align=”center” cart=”n” cloak=”n” height=”500″ identifier=”B00UYNAGEI” locale=”CA” localize=”y” nw=”y” nf=”y” src=”//geeklife.ca/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/616m2BWPkxPL.jpg” tag=”geewitsty-20″ width=”500″]

Yep, if your mom loves puzzles, and science fiction, and likes to collect things, LEGO just might be her jam.

I personally love putting Star Wars ships together, especially with the help of my nephews, and know quite a few women who love the same.

So if you want to get mom a gift that she can use with her kids and/or grandkids, find some cool LEGO kit that will take all day to put together.

What Mom Gifts Do You Love Most?

Like you, I’m always in the market for new gifting ideas.  I would love to hear what Mother’s Day gifts you plan to give, or hope to receive!
